Airport artificial island: removing an abandoned telephone cable
Divers searched for an old submarine telephone cable buried up to 5 m deep, uncovered it by airlift and recovered it by winch before reclamation.

An abandoned submarine telephone cable ran through the footprint of a new artificial island and had to come out before reclamation.
A survey and guard boat set marker weights along the route. Divers made search runs of 50–80 m to find the cable, then airlifted pits to expose it: a 10 m length at 1 m cover meant about 13.5 m³ of seabed, while at 5 m cover it meant about 280 m³. The cable was pulled up by winch and pulley to the work boat, cut into lengths and stored on deck. About 1 km of cable was recovered.
