Black Point Power Station: clearing the cooling-water intake heads
Three dive teams located the offshore intake heads of Black Point Power Station, opened them, cleared the screens and airlifted silt from the pits.

Black Point takes its cooling water through intake heads that stand on the seabed offshore. Each one has a stainless screen, the "bird cage", that fills up with plastic and debris over time.
Three dive teams worked in parallel, each assigned an intake head. At each head they:
- Located it from the survey coordinates and marked it with a buoy.
- Lifted off the 900 × 900 mm stainless manhole cover.
- Tested and refitted the chlorine pipe and nozzle joint.
- Jetted the plastic bags and debris out of the screen and cleared the stainless bars.
- Fitted a new cover and recorded the head on CCTV before and after.
The teams also ran CCTV along the culvert joints, fitted 24 stainless plates with filler at two leaking joints, and airlifted silt out of silt pits 5 to 8.
