Stanley: encasing a sewage outfall pipe on rock
A Ø450 mm outfall crossing a rocky foreshore was encased in concrete using steel formwork, sandbags and mortar bags.

Near Flat Rock at Stanley, the Ø450 mm outfall from the sewage treatment works crosses bare rock and needed protecting.
The pipe was encased in place using two steel formworks of 3.0 × 1.2 × 0.8 m, about 350 cement sandbags, a 3 × 1.7 × 0.3 m mortar bag, two Ø250 × 7,000 mm HDPE pipes and 6.7 m³ of concrete grout, placed section by section along the route.
