Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui: seawall survey and repair
An underwater survey of the blockwork seawall from the Star Ferry to the China Ferry section, and repairs to voids and displaced blocks under the car park and pump houses.

Ocean Terminal stands on an old blockwork seawall. In 2001 we surveyed the wall underwater in zones: the Star Ferry section (0–76.5 m), under the Ocean Terminal bridge, the car park (172.7–342.7 m), the pump house and No.3–4 wharf (382–444 m) and the China Ferry section (469–563 m).
About 50 defects were found and measured along the car-park section alone, from open joints of 100 mm to gaps of 200 mm running for several metres. Voids under the car park were filled with cement sandbags and concrete.
At the seawater pumping station, blocks had moved out of line. Divers moved them back to their original position, set formwork, and fixed them with concrete and cement sandbags. The drawings show each section before and after.
2012: the pump houses again
In 2012 six blocks under the pump houses needed resetting. Instead of lifting them out, the new method parked them on the seabed, built steel formwork by underwater welding from the seabed to 200 mm above the pump-house base, and poured about 40 m³ of underwater concrete at low tide, struck after three days.
